The Indian Railway has changed the Auto upgrade process on tickets for the waiting list. According to the IRCTC, the sleeper class tickets will no longer be upgraded to the first AC even if the berties are empty.

Waiting tickets will only upgrade up to two classes
According to the new rules, the sleeper class tickets will now be upgraded to only two categories above.
- For example- Sleper Class (SL) tickets can be raised to maximum third AC (3A) or second AC (2A), but not in the first AC (1).
- Similarly, the third AC (3A) tickets can be upgraded to the maximum first AC (1A).
Prior to that, if the sleeper class or other lower class tickets are on the waiting list and the seats are available in the upper class (eg, 2A or 1A), passengers can be promoted to automatic first AC (1A).
Auto-upgrad
- The auto-upgraded facility will only be implemented when the passenger selected the auto-upgrade option while booking the passenger ticket or put it in ‘yes’ (yes) by default.
- If the passenger definitely chose ‘no’ (no) chose, its tickets would not be upgraded even if the higher category seats were found.
- If no option is selected during booking, the system accepts it as ‘yes’ by default.
- Veteran citizens and passengers for the lower berth are also eligible for auto-upgrades.
- Upgrade is upgraded but the lower berth will not be guaranteed, even by applying for the passenger.
Rules for PNR and Return
- The PNR number of the waiting ticket will remain the same after the upgrade, which can be used to track the details of the trip.
- If the upgrade ticket is canceled, the return will be based on the original booking class (eg sleeper) rent (eg 2A), it will be based on it.
Waiting ticket-AC-on slipper coaches won’t be able to travel
Earlier, the Indian Railway had applied new rules for waiting tickets from May 1. According to them, passengers will no longer be allowed to travel on slippers or AC coaches, including the waiting list.
Passengers who are on the list of tickets are now able to travel only to ordinary coaches. If a passenger is seen traveling to AC or sleeper coach on a waiting ticket, he will be fined.
Fine for violation:
- Fine for AC: $ 440
- Fine for Sleeper: $ 250
